Dear Santa: Bring portals for shelter cats!

December 21, 2016

‘Tis the season for low cat inventory in most shelters. What could be more festive than taking this opportunity to upgrade your cat housing with portals?

Putting portals into cat cages has been an important step in implementing capacity for care strategies in animal shelters. Somewhat magically, this doesn’t reduce the number of cats your organization can handle in a year.

In fact, in many cases, it can increase it, all while providing increased space per cat, more opportunities for hiding, enrichment, and separation of sleeping, eating, and litter box. That means reduced stress and improved quality of life and health for sheltered cats.

UC Davis has ready-made portals for sale on their website, which will allow shelters to retrofit older cat cage housing to help meet standards of care.

You can order the portals, as well as view step-by-step how-to videos, here.
